Chapter No. 9

Threads of Solitude

Welcoming the summer, we extend a warm invitation to the picturesque village of Chiusure in Siena, Italy. During Na Kim’s artist residency with Amant in this tranquil setting, she plans to connect virtually with visitors of LOOM online. Provided the Wi-Fi connection holds,  LOOM will transport you to one of the selected locations accessible in Chiusure.

During this one hour, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the stunning Tuscan landscape, with views of Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore. You can also observe the activities unfolding in the residency studio or catch snippets of local chatter, accompanied by the delightful sounds of birds and the occasional meowing of cats.

The ninth chapter of LOOM seeks to explore the sincere experience of presence, transcending physical boundaries of space and time. Each unexpected encounter during this hour will serve as a thread intricately woven into the solitude that LOOM aims to foster and share.

Amant is a center for contemporary art located in East Williamsburg, NY. Founded in 2019, we are a non-collecting institution that fosters artistic research, experimentation, and dialogue through exhibitions, live programs, publications, and artist residencies in Brooklyn, NY, and Siena, Italy. The core of Amant’s mission is to advance the presentation of contemporary art with an emphasis on innovative formats and ideas.

Launched in the summer of 2020, the Studio & Research Residency Siena is designed for professionals in the arts and the humanities at all career stages and working in different media, especially music, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, and the visual arts. Located in the small hamlet of Chiusure, in the heart of the province of Siena, the studios sit on a hill overlooking the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, founded in the 14th century by Benedictine monks. Residencies run for three months only during the summer. Although Amant doesn’t provide production or research support, Amant fosters the exchange between residents and organizes visits to local cultural sites and institutions. The residency is an integral part of the village of Chiusure; residents are encouraged to interact with the local community and visitors with respect.
